Softball Wins First Game in AEC Tournament

Winchester, Va- Marymount claimed victory in round one of the Atlantic East Conference softball tournament. The Saints won 10-6 Against the Neumann Knights.

The Saints hold a record of 16-23 overall and 7-3 in conference.

TOURNAMENT GAME ONE: 10-6
  • Neumann batted first, taking advantage of the chance to put the first run on the board, scoring one run. The Saints responded with two runs to overtake the lead.
  • Kammie Brown took advantage of a wild pitch thrown by Neumann to advance home and score the first run for the Saints.
  • Haley Greer singled up the middle to bat in Kaylynn Johnson for run two.
  • Neither team advanced the score in the second inning.
  • The bottom of the third saw continued action for the Saints, with two runs scored to further their lead.
  • The first run was from a scoring opportunity created by Greer who grounded out and gave Samantha Cinotti the chance she needed to take home.
  • Kaylee Atkins hit a single down the third base line to score Johnson. '
  • Neumann closed in on the Saints' lead scoring two runs in the top of the fourth.
  • Marymount widened the point difference with five runs in the bottom of the fourth.
  • Cinotti doubled to left field to bat in Leila Hernandez.
  • Johnson hit a double to left center creating an opportunity for both Brown and Cinotti to score.
  • After a pitcher change by the Knights, Marymount's Johnson and Atkins both scored as a result of the homerun hit by Atkins.
  • No score advancements were made in the fifth.
  • Neumann again lessened the Saints lead in the top of the sixth, scoring three runs.
  • Marymount scored a final run in the bottom of the sixth. The run came from a throwing error by the catcher in response to Tara Corcoran stealing second. The error gave Johnson time to steal home.
  • Neumann was unable to match the Saints in the seventh inning resulting in a 10-6 win for the Saints.
  • Notable moments by the Saints: Kaylynn Johnson had four runs, three hits, and two RBIs for the Saints. Kaylee Atkins hit a homerun and had three RBIs. Haley Greer and Jenna Jew each were accredited with seven putouts for the Saints. Bailey Demusz had five strikeouts against the Knights.
UP NEXT
  • The Saints are on the road for game two of the conference tournament on Sundy May 4th. The second game was postponed to Sunday due to weather conditions.
