WINCHESTER, Va. -- Marymount softball, after dropping a heartbreaker in the winner's bracket game to start their day, battled back to secure their first-ever trip to the Atlantic East Championship round with their win over Neumann to finish off the day.
After a weekend of weather, the Championship has been moved to next weekend as the Saints look to claim their first title in program history.
IMMACULATA 4 - MARYMOUNT 2
- Starter in the circle Bailey Demusz settled in quickly for the Saints to open the day, tossing six scoreless innings to give Marymount a chance late in the game.
- Marymount came through on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the sixth. After a one-out double off the bat of Kaylynn Johnson, a pair of walks loaded the bases and Johnson scored on a wild pitch. Hailey Leamer knocked a sacrifice fly to score Tara Corcoran, who pinch ran for Haley Greer, to give Marymount a two-run advantage heading into the final frame.
- Immaculata scored four in the top of the seventh and Marymount was unable to mount the comeback, as the Saints would ultimately fall in the contest and force an elimination game.
- Demusz ended her day with seven total strikeouts in the circle, allowing just two earned runs.
- Samantha Cinotti, Johnson, Jenna Jew, and Leila Hernandez each had hits in the loss.
MARYMOUNT 3 - NEUMANN 0
- Cinotti got the Saints on the board quickly, blasting a solo home run over the left field fence in the bottom of the first inning to give Marymount the early lead.
- With starter Emma McCormack dealing in the circle, the Saints looked to extend their lead in the bottom of the fifth.
- Hernandez led off the fifth with a bunt single, with Kammie Brown driving the ball the opposite way to put runners at second and third with nobody out. Cinotti dropped a perfect bunt to score Hernandez and give Marymount their second run. Greer knocked an infield single to score Brown and put three on the board for the Saints.
- McCormack finished what she started, going the distance and pitching the complete game shutout. She worked around just six hits and struck out four in her outing.
- Cinotti led the charge on the offense with two RBI.
- Greer went 3-for-3 with a run driven in.
- Leamer, Jew, Hernandez, and Brown each added a hit.
