Baseball Swept by Mighty Macs

Immaculata, PA. Marymount came up short in a doubleheader against Immaculata, taking losses in both games. Game one ended 5-15 and game two ended 5-8.

The Saints hold a record of 21-19 overall and 11-4 in conference.

GAME ONE: MARYMOUNT 5 – Immaculata 15

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Marymount struck first, scoring two runs in the first inning. Run one was batted in by Jack McCarthy with a single through the left side to bat in Quincy Via.
  • Johnathan McMath singled through the right side to bring in run number two for the Saints, scored by McCarthy.
  • Immaculata was unable to score in the first inning and neither team scored in the second.
  • Marymount added run number three in the top of the third inning. Andrew Schaeb hit a sacrifice fly to right field to bring home Bobby Leitzel.
  • Immaculata evened the score 3-3 in the bottom of the inning.
  • The Saints retook the lead in the top of the fourth, adding two additional runs to the board. Daniel Fernandez hit a single to left field and advanced to third on an error by the left fielder. Fernandez's hit advanced Kevin Knoess home.
  • Jordan Dickson batted in the final run for the Saints, hitting a sacrifice fly to left field. The Fly ball created an opening for Fernandez to score home.
  • Immaculata overtook the Saints in the bottom of the fourth. The Saints were unable to gain any additional runs in game one resulting in a 5-15 loss.
  • Michael Arce pitched two strikeouts against the Mighty Macs.
GAME TWO: MARYMOUNT 5 – Immaculata 8

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Immaculata was first to put points on the board in game two, scoring five runs in the bottom of the second inning.
  • No runs were earned in the third or fourth innings.
  • The Saints continued to be denied any runs on the board in the fifth, but Immaculata was able to add one additional run to their lead in the bottom of the inning.
  • The sixth and seventh innings continued with no offensive advancements for either team.
  • The Saints made contact in the top of the eighth, scoring three runs back-to-back. The first run was earned by Tyler Woodring who was batted in by William Alvarez. Alvarez hit a double to center field.
  • The second run was a result of a sacrifice fly hit by Evan Schick to score Ryan Wright.
  • McCarthy singled to left field to bring in Alvarez for run three.
  • The Mighty Macs furthered their lead by scoring a seventh run in the bottom of the eighth.
  • Marymount scored two runs in the ninth inning to narrow the lead.
  • Woodring scored on an error by the third baseman for run four.
  • Schick hit a sacrifice fly to right field, batting in Wright for run five.
  • The game ended in a loss for the Saints with a score of 5-8.
  • Parker Casselberry and Jay Stiff each pitched three strikeouts against the Mighty Macs.

UP NEXT
  • The Saints will begin the first round of the conference tournament starting Wednesday May 7th.
