Softball Takes Doubleheader Loss

Washington, DC- Marymount came up short in a doubleheader against the Cardinals, taking losses in both games. Game one had a score of 13-14 and game two had a score of 0-9.

The Saints hold a record of 15-23 overall and 7-3 in conference.

GAME ONE: 13-14
  • The second inning started the action for the Saints. Marymount scored first with Haley Greer scoring off of an error by the third base position. Catholic matched the Saints, scoring a run in the bottom of the second.
  • Marymount continued making contact with the ball, scoring two more runs in the top of the third. Kaylynn Johnson hit a homerun to left center to score both herself and Kammie Brown. The Cardinals overtook Marymount in the bottom of the third by adding eight runs against the Saints.
  • The Saints responded by rallying in the 4th. First to score for the Saints was Kaylee Atkins who singled earning a spot on base. She was batted in by Kammie Brown who was walked by the pitcher. Next home was Jenna Jew who stole home on a wild pitch. Third home was Ashleigh Mannion who also stole home on a wild pitch. Next was Brown who was third to score off a wild pitch. Johnson started back the bats with a single to left field that brought home Cinotti. Last to score in the inning were Johnson and Greer who were batted in by Atkins who doubled to left center. The Cardinals did not add any runs in the fourth.
  • Marymount added two more runs in the fifth, scoring both Leila Hernandez and Brown. Hernandez was batted in by a single from Cinotti and Brown made it home from an opportunity created by Johnson from a sacrifice fly. Catholic fought back in the bottom of the inning, earning five additional runs to overtake the lead.
  • No runs were scored by either team in the sixth inning.
  • The Saints scored one final run in the seventh scored by Brown off a double hit by Johnson. The Saints were unable to overtake the Cardinals, falling 13-14.
  • Notable moments by the Saints: Kaylynn Johnson hit one homerun and five RBIs. Kammie Brown scored four runs during her four at bats. Jenna Jew was accredited six putouts in the field. Bailey Demusz pitched two strikeouts.
GAME TWO: 0-9
  • The Saints' Johnson hit a double to start game two. The Cardinals scored early in game with six runs in the bottom of the first.
  • Marymount had one hit in the second by Samantha Richtol who singled to right field. The Cardinals furthered their lead adding three runs.
  • Johnson hit a single up the middle for the Saints in the top of the third. Marymount kept Catholic to no hits in the third.
  • Marymount added two hits in the fourth. Jew hit a single to the short stop and Samantha Papp singled to the pitcher. Two innings in a row the Saints refused the Cardinals any scoring opportunities.
  • Inning five resulted in a hit by Brown who singled to left field. Marymount was unable to match the Cardinal's bats in game two taking the loss 0-9.
  • Notable moments by the Saints: Kaylynn Johnson had two hits for the Saints. Samantha Richtol earned six putouts. Emma McCormack pitched three strikeouts in game two.
UP NEXT
  • The Saints are on the road to begin the conference tournament on Saturday May 3rd at 11am. The Saints will begin tournament play by facing the Neumann Knights.
