Baseball Completes Sweep Over Marywood

SCRANTON, Pa. -- In the postponed finale against Marywood, Marymount baseball finished off the sweep of the Pacers on Wednesday afternoon, with the final score of game three finishing off at 13-3.

With the win, the Saints improve to 16-11 overall on the season, now sitting 6-0 in the AEC.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Quincy Via notched the first tally on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning, stealing home on the successful double steal to put Marymount up early.
  • Jack McCarthy knocked a sacrifice fly to score Andrew Schaeb, extending the Saints lead to 2-0 in the early going.
  • Daniel Fernandez scored Kevin Knoess via a sacrifice fly in the second, pushing the score to 3-0 in favor of the Saints.
  • The Pacers cut into the lead in the bottom of the fourth, but the Saints answered in a big way in the next frame with an eight-run inning.
  • With one away, Via walked to get Marymount moving. Bobby Leitzel drove a double, followed by a single off the bat of Schaeb to push across two. 
  • McCarthy knocked a two-run blast to score Schaeb to continue the Saints momentum.
  • With the bases loaded and two away, Jordan Dickson came through with a grand slam, giving Marymount an 11-1 lead.
  • The Saints put across two more in the top of the sixth, with Ryan Cuadros and Knoess collecting RBI, to give the game its final score of 13-3.
  • Dickson led the charge with his four RBI on a 2-4 day at the plate.
  • McCarthy totaled three RBI with his 2-3 day at the dish.
  • Schaeb had two RBI, going 2-4 on the day.
  • Via, Leitzel, Cuadros, Jonathan McMath, and Knoess all added hits.
  • Jay Wandell earned the win on the mound, going 5.0 innings allowing just two earned runs with seven total strikeouts.
  • Ketz Murray threw 1.2 innings of scoreless relief with three strikeouts.
UP NEXT
  • The Saints will start their three-game set with Neumann on Friday at Capital One Park, with first pitch set for 3:30 PM.
  • They will finish out the series on Saturday at Neumann in double header fashion beginning at noon.
