Late Goal Secures Men's Lacrosse AEC Opening Win

ARLINGTON, Va. -- Marymount men's lacrosse opened up AEC play in an exciting way on Saturday afternoon after celebrating its seniors. 

With a late minutes goal out of the stick of Bryan Maguire, the Saints took down the Pacers of Marywood 9-8 to improve to 7-4 on the season, now 1-0 in conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Robert Kirkland IV put the opening goal in the net within the first two minutes of play to give the Saints the early advantage.
  • After the Pacers answered with two of their own, Cameron Glass found Bryan Maguire with the open look to even up the tally heading into the second quarter of action.
  • Gavin Taylorson ditched the perfect pass to Ian Fructuoso to help Marymount regain the lead.
  • Marywood put two more in the net down the stretch of the first half to take a one-goal lead into halftime.
  • Maguire and Ben Cooper went back-to-back to open the second half of play and give Marymount the lead again.
  • Three-straight goals from the Pacers put them up by two, still in the third quarter of play.
  • Taylorson dished passes to Vandawater and Maguire to tie it all up heading into the fourth quarter.
  • Marywood opened up the fourth with a goal to retake the lead.
  • With 11:52 left in the game, Roan Schumann notched the equalizer.
  • After minutes of no scoring, Maguire came through. With just over a minute left of play, Maguire secured the winning goal off the pass from Vandawater to claim the AEC win.
  • Maguire notched four points on his four goals.
  • Taylorson had three assists, adding a trio of ground balls.
  • Alongside his goal and assists, Vandawater added a ground ball.
  • Patrick Miller caused a pair of turnovers and picked up two ground balls.
  • Ryan Casagrande picked up three ground balls and caused a turnover.
  • Andrew Gardecki caused three turnovers and picked up four ground balls on his Senior Day.
  • Grant Gallaway caused three turnovers.
  • Matthew Davis earned the win in the goal to cap off his Senior Day, notching six saves with a ground ball.

  • The Saints will hit the road next, heading to Neumann for another Atlantic East match up next Wednesday at 4 PM.
