Baseball Takes Two to Open Centenary Series

TYSONS, Va. -- Marymount baseball switched up their three-game series with the Cyclone of Centenary, playing two on Friday at Capital One Park. 

Winning on both ends of the the twin-bill, the Saints improve to 20-16 overall on the season, now 10-1 in Atlantic East play. 

MARYMOUNT 5 - CENTENARY 2
  • The Cyclones put two on the board in the top of the second inning to take an early lead. 
  • In the bottom frame of the second, Andrew Schaeb shot a rope over the left center wall for his second home run of the season, cutting the deficit in half.
  • With the bases loaded in the bottom of the third, Ryan Cuadros came through with a two-RBI single to push Marymount ahead 3-2.
  • William Alvarez knocked an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth, followed by a bunt RBI single from Ryan Wright to give Marymount the 5-2 lead.
  • Starter David Muirhead finished what he started, tossing a complete game to improve to 3-3 on the season.
  • Bobby Leitzel and Alvarez each had a pair of knocks.
  • Jack McCarthy and Jordan Dickson each added a hit for the Saints.
MARYMOUNT 10 - CENTENARY 0
  • The Saints steadily put on offensive pressure in the nightcap to take the game in run-rule fashion.
  • Alvarez got the scoring started with an RBI triple, scoring Cuadros.
  • In the same frame, Wright notched his second RBI of the day, with Quincy Via knocking an RBI single to continue to add on.
  • Cuadros punched an RBI single through the left side in the third to extend the Marymount lead to five.
  • Leitzel powered his first home run of the season in the bottom of the fifth to continue tacking on.
  • Via knocked in two more runs in the bottom of the fifth.
  • Jonathan McMath blasted a towering shot over the right field wall to get the scoring going in the seventh, with Via hitting in the walk-off run to secure the mercy rule win.
  • McCarthy ended the day with three hits in the second game of the day.
  • Via finished off with four RBI.
  • Liam Progulske earned the win on the mound, tossing all seven innings while striking out six. He didn't allow a hit until the fifth inning.
UP NEXT
  • The Saints will finish their series with the Cyclones tomorrow with first pitch set for 12 PM at Capital One Park.
  • Get there early, as they will recognize their senior class ahead of the contest.
