Women’s Lacrosse Celebrate Senior Day with Win Over Cougars

Arlington, VA. – Marymount women's lacrosse celebrated the seniors with a dominating 18-5 victory over Chatham University.

This brings their record to 14-2 overall and 4-0 in conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The senior day game started with a battle of the defenses. Marymount was first to score with a goal by Bailey Gehler assisted by Ella Baker. The Cougars continued pushing back against the Saints, taking the lead with two goals. Marymount attacked back with two goals of their own to retake the lead. The goals were scored by Arayla Garcia unassisted and Tess Valentino assisted by Riley Love. Before the end of the period Chatham was able to retie the score 3-3.
  • Marymount scored first in the second quarter. The goal was scored by A. Garcia and assisted by Taylor Chepren. The Saints continued their offensive press with three consecutive goals. The goals were all assisted by Love, two were scored by Natalia Ortiz, and one was scored by Valentino. The Cougars added one more goal to the board and Marymount ended the half with a final goal from Ortiz assisted by Love.
  • Building on the success from the first half, the Saints scored two goals to start the third quarter. Kaylee Heath scored with an assist from Chepren and Love scored unassisted. Chatham gained the last goal they would see in the game before Marymount kicked up the pace for five additional goals in the quarter. The first goal for the Saints was scored by A. Garcia off a pass from Baker in a man up position. The second goal came from Jullian Blair assisted by Chepren. The next goal was also shot by Blair but this time unassisted. Chepren was next to score with no assist. For the final goal of the quarter, a sibling team up resulted in a goal scored by Arayla Garcia passed from Carmella Garcia. The quarter ended 15-5
  • Chatham attempted to fight back, creating a battle for possession in the midfield. The Saints gained the advantage and moved the ball into the offensive third. Gehler shot and scored from a quick pass from Baker to further advance the Saints' lead. The Saints defense contained the Cougars, refusing any additional goal attempts made in the Saints' defensive third. Marymount scored two final goals to end the game. The goals were earned by A. Garcia on a free position and Brooke Bretney assisted by Chepren. The Saints' senior day ended in Victory, winning against the Cougars 18-5.
  • Notable moments by the Saints: Arayla Garcia claimed five goals and ten successful draw controls. Riley Love contributed to six points in the game with one goal and five assists. Abby Dunn helped defend the midfield with six caused turnovers against the Cougars. Hannah Smith backed the defense with eleven saves in goal.

  • The Saints' next home appearance will be on Wednesday April 23rd, where the Saints will face off against Gwynedd Mercy at 4pm. The game will take place at Long Bridge Park.
