NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Marymount baseball headed to CNU on Thursday afternoon to take on the Captains in late season, non-conference action.
Falling 12-10 after threatening in the ninth, the Saints now sit at 18-14 overall on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- CNU took a quick lead after pushing two runs across in the bottom of the first inning.
- After some quiet, the Saints answered with six-run top of the fourth inning, highlighted by RBI doubles off the bats of Quincy Via and Jonathan McMath.
- The Captains plated 10 runs from the fourth to the seventh to retake their lead.
- The Saints scored twice in the eighth to begin attempting to claw their way back.
- In the top of the ninth, McMath blasted a two-run home run to try to shift the narrative, but the comeback would fall short.
- McMath had four RBI, going 3-5 at the dish, with his home run and two doubles.
- Kevin Knoess had a 3-for-5 day at the plate.
- Out of the leadoff spot, Via knocked a pair of hits while driving in two runs.
- Andrew Schaeb had two hits in the loss.
- Bobby Leitzel, Jack McCarthy, and Ryan Cuadros each added a hit.

- Marymount will continue to play out of conference this weekend, heading to Hampden-Sydney on Saturday for a 3 PM first pitch.
