Softball Falls Short in Doubleheader vs. Blazers

Arlington, VA- Marymount battled hard against Hood College but came up short in both games. Game one ended 5-7 and game two ended 4-6.

After games twenty-nine and thirty, the Saints hold a record of 10-20 overall and 2-2 in conference.

GAME ONE: 5-7
  • Marymount struck first in the game. The Saints scored two runs in the bottom of the first. Samantha Cinotti walked before stealing second. Kaylynn Johnson followed Cinotti with a homerun to score two.
  • The Saints fielded two no hitters in the second and third innings. The Saints had two hits in the second and one hit in the third. The hits were gained in the second by Hailey Leamer who singled to second and Kaylee Atkins with a single to center field.
  • Marymount kept the Blazers from gaining any runs in the fourth. Marymount added a third run in the bottom of the fourth with a homerun from Leamer over the left center fence.
  • The score remained 3-0 in the fifth. Hood evened the score in the top of the sixth. The Saints and Blazers kept an even score in the seventh to send the game into extra innings.
  • The Blazers took the lead, scoring a run in the top of the eighth. The Saints reestablished the tie with a run scored by Tara Corcoran who pinch ran for Haley Greer. Corcoran scored on a fielding error by the first base position.
  • Hood scored three runs in the ninth. Marymount gained one additional run scored by Atkins who was batted in by Leila Hernandez. The Saints were unable to overtake the Blazers, losing 5-7 during extra innings.
  • Notable moments by the Saints: Kaylynn Johnson hit a homerun and had two RBIs. Hailey Leamer had two hits and had one homerun. Jenna Jew had eight put outs at first base for the Saints. Bailey Demusz pitched five strikeouts against the Blazers.
GAME TWO: 4-6
  • Hood scored first in game two, scoring one run in the top of the first. Marymount quickly answered Hood's run with a three-run rally in the bottom of the inning. Brown was hit by a pitch taking a place on first. Cinotti singled with a bunt that advanced brown to second. Johnson hit a homerun that batted in both Brown and Cinotti.
  • The Blazers added a run in the second. Brown hit a single to center field but no runs were scored for the Saints in the second.
  • The third inning saw the Blazers three up three down in their at bat, and the Saints extended their lead with a homerun from Johnson.
  • The fourth was a battle in the defense for both teams with no runs scored.
  • Hood took the lead in the fifth scoring three runs. Hood scored one additional run in the seventh to win the game 0-6. The Saints ended the game with one hit in the fifth by Atkins who doubled to right field and a hit in the seventh by Greer who singled to left field.
  • Notable moments by the Saints: Kaylynn Johnson hit two homeruns, four RBIs, and scored two runs. Samantha Papp had twelve putouts at first base. Emma McCormack pitched three strikeouts against the Blazers.
UP NEXT
  • The Saints will play at home on Saturday April 12th against Gwynedd Mercy at Barcroft Park. Game one will take place at 1pm and game two will take place at 3pm.
