Late-Inning Heroics Highlight Baseball's Wednesday Win

TYSONS, Va. -- Marymount baseball took on the Bridgewater College Eagles on Wednesday evening in non-conference action, scoring a late run to take the contest 9-8.

After the midweek win, the Saints now sit at 9-2 overall on the season ahead of their trip to the Sunshine State.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Bridgewater pushed across a run in the first inning to put the Saints behind early. Marymount went on to answer in the bottom half of the first with three runs highlighted by RBI singles from Ryan Cuadros and Jonathan McMath.
  • Starter Jay Wandell put up a shutdown inning on the mound in the top of the second to get Marymount back in the batters' box. The Saints exploded for five runs to take a commanding 8-1 lead, with McMath blasting a three-run home run to right field.
  • The Eagles scored twice in the third and pushed across four runs in the fifth to get within one, ultimately tying up the game in the top of the sixth as Marymount looked for answers at the plate.
  • Michael Arce took over on the mound and shut down the Eagles in the seventh and eighth to give the Saints a chance.
  • Bobby Leitzel came through, punching an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth that would prove to be the difference maker as Arce closed out the game to secure the win.
  • McMath led the Saints on offense with four RBI on two hits, one his big blast.
  • Jordan Dickson knocked a double and scored a run in the win.
  • Cuadros collected a pair of hits, driving in three RBI.
  • Quincy Via stole a pair of bags while notching a hit.
  • Joshmar Carbonell, Kevin Knoess, and Andrew Schaeb each added a hit.
  • Arce earned the iwn on the mound, throwing the final 3.0 innings out of the bullpen while not allowing a run, striking out three.
