Ashland, VA. - The women's lacrosse three game winning streak comes to an end against Randolph-Macon. The Saints conceded to the Yellow Jackets 7-19.
This brings their record to 3-1 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Marymount started the game with a draw control won by Arayla Garcia that was quickly stolen by Randolph-Macon. This led to a swift attack by the Yellow Jackets, resulting in the first goal of the game going to the Yellow Jackets. The Yellow Jackets proceeded to score another two goals before the Saints responded with a goal of their own. Garcia scored the first goal for the Saints with no assist. The Saints scored one additional goal in the first quarter, scored by Tess Valentino, but they were unable to match the nine goals scored by Randolph-Macon.
- The Saints came out strong in the second quarter, preventing the Yellow Jackets from claiming the first goal of the quarter. The Saints' defense supported the offense by blocking the Yellow Jackets attempted goals and clearing the ball into the Saints' attacking third.
- The first two goals of the quarter were scored by Marymount's Valentino, both assisted by Riley Love. The Saints scored two other goals in the quarter, scored by Jillian Blair and Ella Baker, but it was not enough to catch Randolph-Macon's continued lead of 6-11 by the end of the half.
- The third quarter saw no goals for the Saints. There were four goal attempts by the Saints, with shots from Natalia Ortiz, Gillian Gladden, Arayla Garcia, and Carmella Garcia. The third quarter score ended 6-17.
- The fourth quarter saw increased effort by the Marymount defense who were able to keep the Yellow Jackets to only two additional goals. Marymount was able to add another goal to the board, scored by Love. However, they were not able to meet the lead gained by Randolph-Macon early in the game. This ended the game with a score of 7-19
- Notable moments for the Saints: Tess Valentino led the Saints with goals scored, scoring 3 goals at attack. Riley Love gained 3 assists for the Saints, supporting her fellow attackers. Hannah Smith protected the goal with 8 saves total during the game.
