TYSONS, Va. -- Marymount baseball opened their Atlantic East Conference slate on Friday afternoon, taking on Gwynedd Mercy in the first of three games.
Taking the match up decisively by a final score of 30-4, the Saints improve to 11-10 overall on the year, now 1-0 in conference action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After starter Parker Casselberry pitched out of a jam in the opening frame, Marymount opened up the day in a big way at the plate. Pushing nine runs across in the bottom of the first, highlighted by a bases-clearing triple off the bat of Ryan Cuadros, the Saints began the day in a big way.
- After the Griffins cut into the lead with a four-run top of the second, the Saints answered with another run in the bottom of the third via an RBI single from Jack McCarthy.
- After tacking on another in the bottom of the fourth with a sacrifice fly from Jordan Dickson, the Saints put up a nine-spot in the bottom of the fifth, followed by 10 more runs in the sixth to continue extending their lead.
- Ben Smallwood closed out the game in the top of the seventh to secure the mercy-rule victory.
- 16 different Saints collected hits on the day, with all 16 collecting RBI.
- McCarthy had four RBI in the win, with Bobby Leitzel and Cuadros driving in three.
- Andrew Schaeb and Kevin Knoess each knocked a pair of doubles. Anthony Farmakides and Colby Cunningham each added one.
