Arlington, VA. – Marymount women's lacrosse dominated on the attack against Hood while preventing the majority of goal opportunities in the defense.
This brings their record to 6-2 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Marymount started on the defensive with a save by Hannah Smith in goal. Smith began an immediate offensive attack with a successful clear leading to a goal by Jillian Blair. The first goal by Blair quickly turned into three goals for the Saints with the additional two goals scored again by Blair and the third goal by Bailey Gehler. The Saints' and Blazers' defenses locked down the goals for several minutes, causing a back and forth in possession. Marymount broke the possession game first with a goal by Tess Valentino. Hood responded with their first goal, preventing Marymount from establishing a further point advantage. Hood further closed the lead with a second goal less than a minute after their first. Marymount finished the first quarter by gaining back the point advantage lost to Hood. The last goals of the quarter were scored by Blair and Gehler with the last goal assisted by Riley Love.
- Hood gained the first goal of the second quarter, challenging the Marymount defense. Marymount retaliated with a goal from a man up position during a free position shot earned by Valentino. The Saints continued furthering the point separation with goals from Valentino, Taylor Chepren, and Arayla Garcia. The Saints finished the quarter with five further goals added compared to the Blazers one before the end of the half. This brought the score to 15-4 at the half.
- The Saints began the second half with a successful draw control by Abby Dunn that became an earned goal for Love. Playing off the momentum started again by Dunn with the draw control, Valentino scored the second goal of the half with the assist from Ella Baker. The Blazers continued to test the Saints' defense, earning a goal in the quarter. Valentino continued to be a key player on the attack for the Saints, earning the last goal of the third from a free position opportunity. The score was 18-5 showing a widening in the Saints lead.
- Marymount refused to slow down in the fourth quarter, winning two draw controls and earning two goals. Marymount dominated possession to begin the quarter. The goals were scored by Carmella Garcia with no assist and Kaylee heath from a free position. Marymount cemented their victory with two final goals by Blair and C. Garcia. Ending the game with a score of 22-5.
- Notable moments by the Saints: Jillian Blair and Tess Valentino both scored five goals out of six shots on goal each, leading the Saints for goals scored. Ella Baker and Taylor Chepren each had two assists contributing to the win for the Saints. Arayla Garcia continues to dominate possession for the Saints with seven successful draw controls. Not far behind was Abby Dunn with six of her own successful draw controls. Hannah Smith protected the net for the full sixty minutes of the game, denying seven goal attempts.

- The Saints' next home appearance will be on Thursday March 20th, where the Saints will face off against Mount Holyoke College at 4pm. The game will take place at Long Bridge Park.
