Baseball Finishes Spring Break With Decisive Win

DAVENPORT, Fla. -- Marymount baseball rounded out their Spring Break trip with a decisive win over Husson on Thursday, 11-0.

The win gives the Saints double-digit wins on the early season, improving their record to 10-7.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It took a couple of innings to get the bats going, as the Saints came out hitting the ball hard but finding gloves.
  • Marymount broke through in the top of the third, as Jordan Dickson singled with one away, followed by a double off the bat of Quincy Via to put runners on second and third with one out. Bobby Leitzel drove in the first run with an RBI ground out and Jack McCarthy punched an RBI single up the middle to give Marymount the 2-0 advantage.
  • In the top of the fourth, Anthony Farmakides led off with a walk, followed by a single through the right side by Evan Schick. Joshmar Carbonell moved them over with a successful sacrifice bunt. After a wild pitch to plate the first run, Ryan Wright knocked an RBI single to score Schick.
  • Dickson knocked in Wright to give Marymount a 5-0 lead in the fourth.
  • Starter Jay Wandell continued to keep Husson off the board, and the Saints plated another pair in the top of the sixth, highlighted by an RBI single from Leitzel.
  • The Saints notched four more in the top of the seventh, highlighted by an RBI knock from Schick and a sacrifice fly from William Alvarez to continue to up their lead.
  • Graham Jones struck out the side in the bottom of the seventh to finish off the game, as it was called due to mercy rule.
  • Wandell threw 6.0 shutout innings, earning his third win of the year, while striking out five.
  • Via went 2-3 out of the leadoff spot with a double.
  • Wright also went 2-3, driving in an RBI.
  • Leitzel drove in two RBI, going 2-4 at the dish.
  • Andrew Schaeb went 2-for-4 out of the cleanup spot.
  • Farmakides and Schick each collected two hits, with Schick driving in a run.
  • Dickson drove in two RBI.
UP NEXT
  • The Saints will travel home tomorrow to come back to Virginia. They will play next on Sunday, taking on Hampden-Sydney on the road.
  • First pitch is scheduled for 2 PM.
  • Marymount will be back at Capital One Park on Tuesday, Mar. 18, taking on Mary Washington at 6 PM.
