Women's Lacrosse Drops Tight Matchup with Skidmore

CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Marymount women's lacrosse finished up their time in Florida on Wednesday morning, matching up with Skidmore College out of New York.

An intense battle throughout, the Saints ultimately fell in the contest by a final score of 13-12, updating their record to 5-2 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After Skidmore opened the day netting a goal, Ella Baker and Tess Valentino each sank unassisted goals back-to-back to take the early lead.
  • The Thoroughbreds retook the lead on two unanswered goals, but the Saints went on a 4-0 run, highlighted by two goals out of the stick of Arayla Garcia, to take a 7-3 lead.
  • Skidmore scored two of the final three goals of the half to push the score to 8-5 heading into the half in favor of the Saints.
  • After a Thoroughbred goal to start the second half, Kaylee Heath and Jillian Blair each sank goals to push momentum back to Marymount.
  • In the final quarter, Skidmore put up a 5-1 run to take a 12-11 lead in the final five minutes.
  • Blair sank the equalizer, nabbing the pass from Heath to even the tally up at 12.
  • The Thoroughbreds sank the final goal of the day with just over a minute left to play, giving the Saints the hard-fought loss. 
  • Heath, Blair, and Valentino each had three points, with Blair and Valentino's all coming from goals.
  • Garcia, alongside her pair of goals, nabbed six draw controls.
  • Abby Dunn caused a turnover, adding four ground balls and five draw controls.
  • Bailey Gehler notched a goal with two ground balls and two draw controls.
  • Riley Love dished out two assists and caused two turnovers, picking up a ground ball along the way.
  • Hannah Smith collected 13 total saves while picking up four ground balls.
  • Marymount went a perfect 5-5 from the free position.

  • Marymount will head back to Virginia, next playing Hood College at home Wednesday, Mar. 19, at 7 PM.
