ARLINGTON, Va. -- Marymount softball played for the first time at Barcroft Park on Tuesday afternoon, taking on WPI in double header fashion during Spring Break.
Dropping both sides of the day, the Saints move to 3-9 overall this season.
GAME ONE - WPI 9 - MARYMOUNT 0
- Starter in the circle Bailey Demusz threw five shutout innings to give the Saints chances to capitalize through the beginning part of the day.
- Hailey Leamer singled with one away in the bottom of the fourth looking to get something going, but a fielders choice followed by a ground out ended the frame with the game still scoreless.
- WPI plated four runs in the sixth and five more in the seventh to push the game to its final score.
- Kaylynn Johnson, Ashleigh Mannion, and Leamer each punched singles in the loss.
- Demusz struck out five in her start.
GAME TWO - WPI 10 - MARYMOUNT 2
- WPI scored twice in the top of the first to take an early lead. Marymount answered in the bottom frame with a successful double steal, plating Leila Hernandez who singled to lead off the inning to cut the deficit in half.
- The Goats extended their lead with three runs in the second and another in the third to push the score to 6-1.
- Marymount looked to get momentum moving in the bottom of the third, Hernandez led off the frame getting hit by a pitch, with Kammie Brown moving her over with a successful sacrifice bunt. Johnson came through with the RBI single to get the score to 6-2 in favor of WPI.
- WPI scored four more down the stretch, with Marymount unable to answer, to fall in the night cap.
UP NEXT
- The Saints will be back at home on Friday, squaring up with NYU at Barcroft Park.
- First pitch is scheduled for 12 PM.
