DAVENPORT, Fla. -- Marymount baseball took the field this morning against #2 Salve Regina, falling to the Seahawks 7-3.
The loss puts the Saints' overall record at 9-7 for the year as we near the halfway point of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Salve Regina jumped out to a quick lead as the plated three runs in the top of the first, adding another in the top of the fourth to extend their lead to 4-0 through the first third of the contest.
- Starter David Muirhead settled down on the bump, keeping the Saints within striking distance. Jonathan McMath gave the Saints life with a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to cut into the lead. A successful double steal scored Francis Swekosky to put Marymount within one.Â
- Unable to secure the shutdown inning, Salve Regina scored two in the top of the seventh to reclaim a three-run lead.
- Marymount threatened in the later innings, but were unable to capitalize, as the Saints would ultimately drop the battle.
- Jack McCarthy went 3-for-4 out of the cleanup spot with a double.
- McMath collected two RBI with his round-tripper in the sixth.
- Swekosky went 2-4 with a pair of singles, adding a stolen bag.
- Quincy Via added a hit and stolen base in the loss.
- Evan Schick punched a single in his pinch hit opportunity.
- Despite earning the loss, Muirhead threw well in his start, striking out four without allowing a walk in 5.0 innings of work.
- Owen Mead tossed 3.0 innings in relief, allowing just one earned run, while striking out a pair.

- The Saints will finish out competition at the RussMatt Invitational tomorrow at 4:30 PM against Husson.
