Women’s Lacrosse Defeat the Knights in a 18-3 Victory

Clearwater, FL. – Marymount women's lacrosse wins game one of their Florida spring break series,

This brings their record to 5-1 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Marymount hit the ground running against the Knights. Taking the initial advantage, Arayla Garcia seized the first draw control and turned it into an immediate shot opportunity that missed just high. Maintaining possession, the Saints' Riley Love claimed goal one of the games with an assist from Taylor Chepren. The Saints keep the advantage and claim three consecutive goals against the Knights in just under two minutes. The goals were scored by Ella Baker off a free position, and two by Garcia with assists by Bailey Gehler and Love. Baker scored one additional goal for the Saints to bring the first quarter score to 5-0 at the end of the first fifteen.
  • The Saints' defense gains some action to start off the second quarter. Arcadia scored their first goal against Marymount off a failed clear attempt in the Saints' defensive third. Marymount responded by tightening the defense and maintaining possession in the offensive third. Tess Valentino is first to score for the Saints in the second quarter, placing a free position shot into the back of the net. Two minutes later, the Saints see a set of three past the Knights goalkeeper, one scored by Kaylee Heath and two scored by Gehler. The Saints end the half by preventing all other goal attempts by the Knights, and scoring a final goal in the last ten seconds of the half by Valentino.
  • The first minutes of the second half are a scramble for the ball between the Saints and Knights. The Saints gained possession and earn a goal from Love on a free position. Exactly a minute later, Valentino adds goal number twelve for Marymount. The Saints' defense remains strong throughout the third, only allowing one goal by Arcadia, and support the attack in earning another one more goal in the third quarter by Gehler.
  • Arcadia attempts to gain some momentum in their attack, taking the first shot of the fourth. The goal is denied by Hannah Smith who immediately clears for an attack opportunity that resulted in a free position goal for Natalia Ortiz. The Saints end the game by only allowing one goal in the fourth for the Knights. The Saints' attack scored three more goals to earn their victory. The last goals of the game were scored by Heath, Jillian Blair, and Emily Prensky.
  • Notable moments by the Saints: Natalia Ortiz and Tess Valentino led the attack for goals scored, each claiming three. Leading in assist was Marymount's Taylor Chepren, supporting her teammates in three goals. Arayla Garcia continues to represent for the Saints leading in draw controls, successfully claiming ten against the Knights. Hannah Smith claimed all sixty minutes in the net for the Saints, preventing five goal opportunities from the opposition.

  • The Saints will continue their spring break series on the road in Florida where they will next face Skidmore College on Wednesday March 12th at 9:30am. The game will be played in Clearwater, FL.
  • The Saints' next home appearance will be on Thursday March 20th, where the Saints will face off against Mount Holyoke College at 4pm. The game will take place at Long Bridge Park.
