Baseball Falls Twice Against Washington & Jefferson

DAVENPORT, Fla. -- Marymount baseball continued their time in Florida on Tuesday evening, playing a pair against Washington & Jefferson, ultimately falling on both sides of the double header.

With the losses, the Saints move to 9-6 on the season. 

GAME ONE - WASHINGTON & JEFFERSON 4 - MARYMOUNT 3
  • The Presidents scored twice in the bottom of the first and added two more in the third to take an early lead.
  • With the Saints having trouble at the plate, they finally broke through in the top of the sixth. After Jonathan McMath led off the frame with a double, he advanced to third via a wild pitch before Jack McCarthy drove him in.
  • After a shutdown inning from Ketz Murray, the Saints threatened to even up the tally in the top of the seventh inning after RBI hits from McMath and Ryan Cuadros. The Presidents ultimately shut the door, though.
  • Cuadros, McMath, and McCarthy all drove in a run in the loss.
  • Bobby Leitzel went 2-for-3 on the day.
  • Quincy Via, Kevin Knoess, Francis Swekosky, and Jordan Dickson all added a hit.
  • Murray threw well in his first start of the season, striking out four in his 6.0 innings of work.
GAME TWO - WASHINGTON & JEFFERSON 5 - MARYMOUNT 2
  • After three scoreless innings, with starter Liam Progulske settling in on the mound, the Saints broke through first in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single from Dickson.
  • The Presidents scored five between the fifth and sixth innings to take the lead.
  • Bobby Leitzel cut into the lead with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth in an attempt to push momentum to the Marymount bench.
  • The Saints were unable to push anything else across down the stretch, dropping the the nightcap.
  • Via added two more hits with a stolen bag in game two.
  • McCarthy and Knoess each knocked a double.
  • Dickson went 2-3 in game two on the day.
  • Daniel Fernandez added a hit for the Saints.
UP NEXT
  • The Saints will take a day off before hitting the field against #2 Salve Regina on Wednesday.
  • First pitch is slated for 9:30 AM.
