Men's Basketball Takes Lead in Final Seconds; Beat UMW 73-71

ARLINGTON, Va. -- With Reuben McEachern's two free throws in the final seconds, Marymount men's basketball overcame the small deficit to take down the Eagles of Mary Washington.

With the non-conference win, the Saints improve to 14-6 overall on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Eagles got out to a quick 8-3 lead, but Max Pearcy got the Saints offense rolling, dishing out an assist to James Bell before draining a three to even it up.
  • Mary Washington continued to hold on to a slight advantage. After a pair of free throws from Isaac Harris, the Saints took their first lead of the day with just over eight minutes left in the first half.
  • Miles Phillips converted a pair of free throws to finish out the first half, tying up the score at 28 apiece.
  • The squads traded shots, with the Eagles narrowly maintaining their lead throughout the second half.
  • With a little over 10 minutes left in the contest, Anthoney McClary sank a three to tie it all up.
  • Down by five with 1:33 left on the clock, the Saints began the comeback. Phillips broke away to sink the layup before Jase Mosley followed it up with two to cut the Eagles' lead down to one.
  • After a pair of free throws from UMW, McEachern drove down the lane to get the Eagles' lead back down to just one.
  • After a missed free throw from the Eagles, Harris grabbed the rebound and dished it back to McEachern who drew the foul with mere seconds left on the clock.
  • Sinking both free throws under pressure, the Saints held on at the end to claim the win.
  • Phillips and McEachern each had 15 on the night, with McEachern grabbing five boards, dishing out four assists, and nabbing three steals.
  • Mosley had 10 in the win with four rebounds.
  • Harris grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds alongside seven points and three assists.
  • James Bell put up nine points for the Saints.
