WINCHESTER, Va. -- Marymount men's lacrosse traveled to Shenandoah University on Wednesday evening, taking on the Hornets in non-conference, early season action.
The Saints battled, but ultimately fell in double overtime to move to 1-1 on the young season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Saints went back-to-back to open the contest, with both goals coming from Bryan Maguire and assisted by Mason Vandawater to take a quick advantage.
- After a Shenandoah goal, Gavin Taylorson followed it up with an unassisted tally to keep a two-point advantage heading into the second quarter.
- The Hornets scored twice to open the second quarter to event the tally. The Saints went on to answer with Maguire finding Kai Goo with the open look to retake the lead.
- Two more Hornets goals gave them the advantage, but Maguire ended the half finding Taylorson with the open look to send the Saints into the half all evened up.
- Shenandoah jumped out to a 7-5 lead to open the second half, but the Saints answered with four-straight unanswered goals through the end of the third and start of the fourth to take the 9-7 lead.
- The Hornets scored thrice in the four to hold a one-goal lead. Maguire answered again with 20 seconds left on the clock to tie it all up and head into overtime.
- It took a pair of overtime periods for anyone to net a goal, with the Hornets sinking the deciding factor.
- Maguire led the way for the Saints with seven total points on five goals and two assists, adding a caused turnover and ground ball.
- Vandawater notched four assists with a ground ball.
- Taylorson netted a pair, adding two ground balls.
- Goo, Ian Fructuoso, and Santino Rossitto each added a goal in the loss.
- Ryan Casagrande picked up four ground balls and caused a turnover.
- Andrew Gardecki added a caused turnover and a ground ball.
- Jacob Brooks notched 13 total saves.
