Washington, DC - Saints take one and give one in their doubleheader against Washington College. The Saints claimed the win in the first game and conceded the win in the second. Game one 9-3 and game two 6-11.
After games three and four, the Saints hold a record of 1-3.
GAME ONE: 9-3
- The Saints began the top of the first defending in the field. Bailey Demusz started in the circle pitching to four batters and only allowing one on base. The first out was claimed by Demusz, throwing a pitch that was too good for the Shorewoman not to swing at and miss. Out number two was caught by center fielder Samantha Cinotti. The final out for the Saints was called and caught on a popup by short stop Kammie Brown.
- The Saints' first at bat resulted in one hit by Kaylynn Johnson. Marymount and Washington ended the first inning with no runs scored.
- Marymount continued defending against the Shorewomen in the second inning conceding no runs. The Saints saw their first run home in the bottom of the second. Ashleigh Mannion doubled down the left field line sending Hailey Leamer, who had doubled to center, home to score the Saints first run.
- The third and fourth innings saw no runs for Washington but three runs from Marymount, including a homerun in the third by Johnson.
- The Shorewomen ended their shutout with three runs in the fifth inning, closing in on the Saints' four run lead.
- Innings six and seven saw no more runs for Washington but Marymount saw an additional five runs securing their win in the sixth. Mannion started the scoring streak in the sixth by smashing a homerun over the left field fence. The Saints claimed victory in game one with a score of 9-3.
- Notable moments from the Saints: Brown, Haley Greer, and Papp matched for put outs, all claimed four to help win the game. Leamer was three for three in game one, gaining three hits from each of her three at bats.
GAME TWO: 6-11
- Game two began with no runs scored for the Saints, while Washington was able to advance a player home beginning the game with a 0-1 score.
- Kaylee Atkins started the second inning with a strike out against the Shorewomen. While one batter was able to make it on base, a double play by Brown ended the inning with no additional runs for Washington. Marymount overtook the lead in the bottom of the second, scoring two runs from two back-to-back homeruns by Atkins and Leamer. This brought the score to a 2-1 lead for the Saints going into the third inning.
- It was three up and three down in the field for the Saints in the top of the third and an added two runs for the Saints ending the third inning.
- The third inning was the beginning of a comeback for Washington as two runs were scored in the top of the fourth and another set of two in the top of the fifth to overtake Marymount's lead, going into the sixth with a score of 4-6.
- The Shorewomen secured their win in the top of the sixth gaining a 4-11 lead and allowing no hits from Marymount. The Saints made an attempt at a comeback in the bottom of the seventh but were unable to meet the Shorewomen's 6-11 lead ending the game.
- Notable moments from the Saints: Cinotti and Leamer led for the Saints in hits, each having three during their four at bats. Samantha Richtol was top for put outs with five put outs claimed throughout the game.
UP NEXT
- The Saints are on the road Saturday March 1st in Winchester, VA to face off against Shenandoah University. They are scheduled to start game one at 1pm and game two at 3pm.
- The Saints will return home on Wednesday March 5, where they will compete against Messiah University at 2pm and 4pm at Barcroft Park.
