Women's Lacrosse Outduels Knights

Buena Vista, VA. - Marymount women's lacrosse goes two for two at the start of their season, winning their dual against the Knights 19-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Saints began the game from behind, allowing the Knights the only taste of victory they would receive during the game. Marymount quickly evened the score 1-1 within the first minute and a half. The first goal for the Saints was scored by Riley Love and Assisted by Kaylee Heath.
  • Marymount's defense held strong for the rest of the quarter and refused all other attempts at goal by the Knights while the Saints' offense added another 5 goals to the board.
  • The Saints establish control of the second quarter by scoring the first goal within the first two minutes. Natalia Ortiz scored the short-handed goal with an assist from Kaylee Heath.
  • The Saints defense continued to deny the Knights' offense contributing to the lack of points added for the Knights and the extra 6 points added for the Saints. The half ended with a 12-1 score.
  • The third quarter consisted of goal after goal for the Saints, with Natalia Ortiz for 2, Kaylee Heath for 3, Brooke Bretney for 1, all scoring in the third to bring the third quarter tally to 18-1 for Marymount.
  • The fourth quarter saw some push back from the Knights. The Knights were able to find the net two additional times. The efforts made by the Knights was not enough to match the Saints as the Saints added one additional goal by Mackenzie Morrissette to end the game. The ending score for the game was 19-3 in favor of the Saints.
  • A few notable mentions of the game include Carmella Garcia with 7 successful draw controls, Kaylee Heath with 5 goals, and Riley Love with 6 assists.
  • Hannah Smith notched five saves in the goal for the Saints, allowing just one goal.
UP NEXT
  • The Saints will be on the road for their away game on Wednesday February 26th where they will be facing off against Bidgewater College in Bridgewater, Va at 4pm.
  • The Saints' next home appearance will be on Saturday March 8th at 12pm against Alvernia University.
