Women's Lacrosse Dominates in Season Opener

ARLINGTON, Va. -- Marymount women's lacrosse, in their first game of the season, dominated the Wilson College Phoenix in front of the home crowd at Long Bridge Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Saints scored twice in the opening two minutes, both unassisted goals from Bailey Gehler and Riley Love to get the Saints moving early.
  • Ella Baker scored back-to-back goals in the middle minutes of the first quarter to give Marymount a 7-0 cushion.
  • Gehler found Brooke Bretney with an open look, sinking the goal to give Marymount a 10-point advantage.
  • Taylor Chepren scored to open the second quarter, followed by a twin-bill scoring from Tess Valentino to keep MU in the driver's seat. 
  • Natalia Ortiz scored a trio of goals in the third quarter to highlight the continuing dominance.
  • The Saints scored twice more in the fourth quarter to finish out the strong day for the Saints.
  • Ortiz led the Saints with five goals on the afternoon, adding two caused turnovers and ground balls.
  • Tess Valentino had four goals and an assist for five total points, adding a pair of caused turnovers and a ground ball.
  • Chepren netted three goals, adding two assists, for five points.
  • Kaylee Heath added three goals for the Saints with a ground ball.
  • Love had a goal and two assists.
  • Bretney and Baker each netted two goals.
  • Hannah Smith earned the win in the goal for Marymount.
  • Carmella Garcia had nine draw controls, with Abby Dunn adding five.

  • The Saints will hit the road this Saturday, traveling to Southern Virginia University for a 12 PM first draw.
