Baseball Sweeps Stevenson on Sunday

TYSONS, Va. -- On a windy day at Capital One Park, Marymount baseball swept the Mustangs of Stevenson University to start off the season 3-0.

GAME ONE - Marymount 16 - Stevenson 3

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After starter Parker Casselberry threw a scoreless top of the frame, the Saints got on the board first in the bottom of the opening inning. Ryan Cuadros singled, scoring Quincy Via who doubled to lead off the inning, but the big blast came from Jonathan McMath, who shot a towering home run over the right field wall to plate two.
  • The Saints tacked on two more in the bottom of the second via an RBI ground out off the bat of Via and an RBI double from Bobby Leitzel.
  • Scoring two more in the bottom of the third, Marymount put up a five-run inning in the fourth, highlighted by a bases-clearing double from Jack Kern.
  • McMath notched two more RBI in the a four-run bottom of the sixth to continue extending the Saints' lead.
  • Jackson Bourdeau threw a perfect top of the seventh with two strike outs to close out the decisive win.
  • McMath and Jack McCarthy each went 3-for-5 in game one of the day.
  • Kern had four RBI with a pair of hits.
  • Casselberry earned the win on the mound, going 4.0 innings with four strikeouts.
  • John Murray threw 2.0 strong innings out of the 'pen, racking up four strikeouts.
GAME TWO - Marymount 4 - Stevenson 3

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • McMath knocked an RBI single in the bottom of the first to put Marymount on the board, scoring Ryan Cuadros. Cuadros would take advantage of a throw down in a double-steal opportunity to plate another run.
  • Stevenson took the lead with a three-run inning in the top of the third.
  • Marymount marched their way back in the bottom of the fourth, plating a pair of runs to reclaim the lead.
  • Liam Progulske, in his first outing for the Saints, threw 4.1 innings of scoreless relief to earn the win on the mound, notching seven strikeouts.
  • In his start on the bump, Michael Arce punched out six.
  • McMath went 2-3 in the night cap with an RBI to highlight the offense.
UP NEXT
  • Marymount will host Lycoming for a three-game set next weekend, playing at Smith Stadium in College Park, Md., the home of The University of Maryland.
