COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- In a three-game set over the weekend against the Warriors of Lycoming, Marymount baseball took two-of-three to win the series at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium.
After the three-game slate, the Saints now sit at 5-1 on the young season.
GAME ONE: MARYMOUNTÂ 5 - LYCOMING 4
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lycoming put up a two-spot in the top of the first to start off the weekend, but the Saints cut the lead in half with an RBI single through the right side off the bat of Ryan Cuadros, scoring Bobby Leitzel who doubled in the at-bat prior.
- Lycoming took a 4-1 lead in the top of the second.
- Jonathan McMath drove in a run in the bottom of the third to push momentum to Marymount's dugout.
- Jay Wandell settled down the Warriors' offense in the middle innings to give the Saints a chance in the final frame.
- In the bottom of the seventh, Jordan Dickson led off with a single, followed by Quincy Via reaching on a hit-by-pitch.
- After Leitzel pushed the runners to second and third, Cuadros came through again with a two-run single to even up the tally.
- After a single from McMath and a walk from Andrew Schaeb to load up the bases, Kevin Knoess drew the walk-off walk to send the Saints to the win.
- Cuadros went 2-4 with three RBI.
- Wandell earned his seond win of the season on the mound, going 4.0 strong out of the bullpen with four strikeouts.
- Via and Dickson each collected a pair of hits.
GAME TWO: MARYMOUNTÂ 19 - LYCOMING 3
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Saints scored twice in the opening inning to take an early lead.
- Marymount pushed across six runs in the bottom of the second, highlighted by RBI hits from Leitzel, McMath, Schaeb, and Gray Ellenburg.
- After Lycoming scored a lone run in the top of the third, Cuadros and McMath each notched an RBI to keep momentum.
- Some quiet ensued, but the Saints posted another big inning in the bottom of the sixth. Ryan Wright drove in two runs to get the scoring moving. Dickson followed it up with an RBI single, with Evan Schick finishing it off with an RBI single up the middle.
- Seth Sadler and Tyler Woodring each punched RBI hits in the bottom of the seventh to keep tacking on.
- Bennett Zippel closed out the game, going 1.2 innings with four strike outs.
- Parker Casselberry notched his second win of the season on the mound, throwing 5.0 innings with four strike outs, allowing just one earned run.
- Ben Smallwood and Owen Mead each threw scoreless innings of relief.
- Woodring went 2-2 coming off of the bench for the Saints.
- McMath and Via each had a double in the dominating win.
GAME THREE: LYCOMINGÂ 6 - MARYMOUNTÂ 5
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Warriors pushed across a pair in the top of the first, with the Saints answering with a lone run in the bottom frame to open up the series-ender.
- Schaeb drove a two-run single to right field to even up the tally, 3-3.
- Lycoming went ahead by two in the top of the fifth, with Wright answering via an RBI bunt in the bottom of the fifth.
- The Warriors extended their lead in the top of the seventh, with Ellenburg answering with a sacrifice fly to put the Saints within one.
- Lycoming closed out the win in the finale, with the Saints ultimately winning the series overall.
- Via, Schaeb, and Ellenburg each had two hits, with Schaeb driving in a pair of RBI, Ellenburg with one. Via had a double.
- Leitzel, McMath, and Wright each had a hit, with McMath's being a two-bagger.
- Ryan Mariani kept the Saints in a good position, throwing 3.0 innings of scoreless relief with four strike outs.
- Ketz Murray threw a scoreless inning of relief.
