Immaculata Pulls Away From Women's Basketball

ARLINGTON, Va. -- Marymount women's basketball fell on Saturday afternoon after the conference-undefeated Mighty Macs pulled away in the fourth quarter to take one from the Saints.

After the loss, the Saints move to 6-13 on the year, 3-3 in the AEC. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Marymount scored twice to open the afternoon, with Kelly Ceroll and Samantha Bulik each finding buckets to give Marymount a quick 4-0 advantage.
  • After Immaculata fought back to take a five-point lead, the Saints answered with a three-point play from Bulik to cut the early deficit down to two.
  • A three from Cara Vollmer and back-to-back layups from Jaylah Thompson and Ella Morrison put the Saints on top by three.
  • After a Morrison three and a two-point jumper from Ava Achtyl, the Saints had an eight-point lead heading into the second quarter.
  • Morrison opened the second quarter for Marymount with a three-point play after driving down the lane to give the Saints more momentum.
  • The Mighty Macs took the lead with just over two minutes left in the half, but a six-point run, capped off by Catie Kolwey finding Vollmer with an open look in the paint, sent the teams to the locker room with Marymount holding onto a five-point lead.
  • Light offense defined the beginning of the second half, with Immaculata evening up the tally with under six minutes left in the third quarter.
  • Vollmer sank a three to give Marymount the lead again.
  • Tied up at 39 apiece, Morrison drained a three to give Marymount the lead back.
  • Immaculata answered the bell in the fourth quarter, taking the well-fought game.
  • Morrison had a team-high 16 points with five rebounds, three steals, and two blocks.
  • Vollmer and Ceroll each had eight, with Ceroll adding six boards and Vollmer two steals.
  • Bulik had five points with three rebounds and assists, adding a steal.
UP NEXT
  • The Saints will take on Centenary in Converse Family Fieldhouse next Saturday, Feb. 8, at 1 PM.
  • It will be Senior Day for the Saints.
