WSOC: Two Ariannas, One Dominant Win

ARLINGTON, Va. -- Marymount women's soccer continued its strong start in Atlantic East Conference play with a 2-0 shutout victory over Immaculata on Wednesday night at Long Bridge Park. The win moves the Saints to 2-0-0 in Atlantic East play.

NOTABLE

  • Arianna Blanco and Arianna Garcia each tallied a goal and an assist.
  • Nicole Alvarado led the attack with four shots, including three on goal.
  • Mara Dufour earned her second shutout of conference play, finishing with one save.
  • The Saints out shot Immaculata 15-4, including a 10-1 edge in shots on goal.
  • Marymount controlled the pace with eight corner kicks, while holding Immaculata to just three.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Saints struck early in the 7th minute when Arianna Blanco finished a feed from Arianna Garcia to give Marymount a 1-0 advantage. The duo linked up again in the 65th minute, this time flipping roles. Garcia buried a pass from Blanco to double the lead.

Marymount continued to dominate possession throughout the match, firing 12 of its 15 total shots in the second half. Defensively, the Saints remained composed, limiting Immaculata to just one shot on goal. Mara Dufour and the back line stood firm to preserve the clean sheet as Marymount secured its second straight conference win.
