Women's Basketball Drops Home Match Up

ARLINGTON, Va. -- Marymount women's basketball fell against the Eagles of Mary Washington on Wednesday evening in a break from Atlantic East play.

With the loss, the Saints now sit at 6-12 on the year, still 3-2 in the AEC.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Saints got out to a quick 5-0 lead after scores from Kaylah Barr and Samantha Bulik, who dropped a three, to catch early momentum.
  • After the Eagles' first basket of the game, the Saints answered with a three-point play from Barr to take an 8-2 early lead.
  • Mary Washington put themselves within one of the Saints, but a drive from Cara Vollmer pushed MU up three heading into the second quarter.
  • The Eagles opened the second quarter with an 11 point run to take the advantage.
  • Barr put Marymount back on the board, followed by a layup from Ella Morrison, to cut the deficit to four.
  • Mary Washington finished out the half with a trio of points to take a seven-point lead into the half.
  • At the start of the third quarter, Vollmer sank a three to spark life to the Marymount bench.
  • After an eight-point run from the Eagles, Morrison drove down the lane to get Marymount moving again.
  • A five-point spurt from the Saints cut the Eagles lead down to seven heading into the final quarter.
  • Off the pass from Jaylah Thompson, Ava Achtyl sank a mid-range jumper to continue cutting into the Mary Washington lead.
  • The Eagles held Marymount down the stretch, with a couple of threes from Bulik in crunch time not enough, giving Marymount the well-fought loss.
  • Bulik led the Saints with 15 points, shooting 50% from three-point range, adding seven rebounds and a steal.
  • Barr dropped 10 with two boards and a steal.
  • Catie Kolwey swatted away three blocks off of the bench for Marymount.
  • Achtyl and Kelly Ceroll each had six rebounds, with Ceroll adding two blocks.
  • Morrison had seven points on the night with five rebounds.
