ARLINGTON, Va. -- Marymount men's volleyball put themselves in the win column for the first time in 2025, taking down St. Norbert College in three-straight Tuesday evening.
With the win, the Saints improve to 1-2 on the season ahead of a full weekend down towards the beach.
NOTABLE
- Jonathan Pickering led the way for the Saints, powering 12 kills on a .429 hitting percentage for 12.0 points.
- Luke Pogue, hitting .500, had five kills with four block assists and a block solo, adding a pair of digs.
- Diego Peña notched eight kills while hitting .538, adding three assists, four block assists, and three digs.
- Carter Gresham facilitated the offense with 20 assists, adding two digs and kills.
- Will Wright had five digs with three kills and a trio of aces.
- As a team, the Saints hit at a .339 clip.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Marymount opened the match with a 11-6 run to take a quick lead.
- With the Green Knights inching closer, a kill from Pogue gave them a 15-10 lead in the first set.
- Four straight points, capped off by an ace from Wright, gave Marymount an eight point lead.
- With St. Norbert battling back, putting themselves within three, Marymount scored back-to-back points to take set one.
- St. Norbert got out to a 6-5 lead early in set two, but a kill from Peña evened up the tally.
- Three straight points from MU gave them the lead and shifted the momentum.
- A 5-1 run from the Saints put them up two down the final points.
- After the Green Knights took a 21-20 lead, Marymount took a 5-2 run down the stretch to ultimately come out on the winning end in set two.
- Set three proved to be back-and-forth. A four-point spurt gave the Saints a two-point lead.
- MU scored four of the final five points to win the match over the visiting Green Knights.
UP NEXT
- Marymount travels to Virginia Wesleyan for a duo of matches this weekend, starting off with Barton College at 5 PM on Friday and finishing with the hosting Marlins at 7 PM.
- They will be back in Converse Family Fieldhouse Tuesday, Jan. 28 at 6 PM against Randolph-Macon.
