ARLINGTON, Va. - Marymount women's volleyball hosted a trio of top teams over the weekend in Converse Family Fieldhouse, showing strong against some of the nation's best.
Dropping three matches across the two-day affair, the Saints now sit at 1-6 on the young season, but have showed strong signs in the early going.
SCHREINER 3 - MARYMOUNT 1
NOTABLE
- Harper Wolf knocked 15 kills in the weekend-opening match, hitting at a .167 clip, to lead the offensive effort.
- Emily Genau had 10 kills with a block and five digs for 12.0 points.
- Katee Stromberg had two solo blocks to add with her six kills.
- Eliza Freeman dug out 13 total digs with three assists.
- Natalie Bialecki collected 32 assists and five service aces.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Saints took the first set of the weekend with strong play across the board. An 8-3 run, capped off by a kill from Wolf secured the first set and push momentum to Marymount's bench.
- The Mountaineers came out swinging in the second set, but the Saints cut into the nine-point lead with a 6-1 run to get within five. Schreiner held on to finish out the second set on top.
- A kill from Wolf gave the Saints life late in the third set, but Schreiner again held onto their lead to take the third and the advantage heading into the fourth set.
- It was all Mountaineers down the stretch of the fourth set, as they would take the first match of the quad.
CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT 3 - MARYMOUNT 1
NOTABLE
- It was Wolf, Genau, and Sabrina Schoeberlein again leading the charge on the offense, each with 11 kills. Genau added six digs and two block assists.
- Freeman had 19 digs in the nightcap.
- Bialecki added 35 assists in game two of day one.Â
- Stromberg knocked six kills with two blocks, one solo and one assisted, in the tight matchup.
- Maya Harris collected one solo block and three block assists alongside her four kills.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Marymount again went up early, taking the first set in extra point fashion. Going back-and-forth, the Captains continued to try to extend their lead, but the Saints held close. A kill from Harris and an ace from Bialecki ended the battle and gave the Saints the advantage.
- CNU went on to win the next three straight to take the match.
HEIDELBERGÂ 3 - MARYMOUNT 1
NOTABLE
- Wolf knocked 11 kills to lead the Saints in all three matches across the weekend, good for 11.0 point in the finale.
- Schoeberlein had 10 kills, hitting at .129, with two block assists and two digs.
- Bialecki continued to facilitate the offense with 31 assists and 10 digs.
- Harris racked up 10.5 total points with two solo blocks, a block assist, and seven kills, hitting .294.
- Ava Humphries had 17 digs.
- Elizabeth Stackpole showed strong in the final match with four block assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Heidelberg started out hot, taking set one 25-16.
- The Saints bounced back by taking set two, highlighted by three-straight points to finish it off.
- The Student Prince collected themselves and took the next two, with the Saints staying on their heels throughout.
UP NEXT
- Marymount will take the short trip to Gallaudet next Wednesday, Sept. 11, with first serve set for 7 PM.
- They will then travel to Baltimore, Md., next weekend to take place in the Greg "Gio" Glovanazzi Memorial Tournament, hosted by Johns Hopkins.
