ARLINGTON, Va.– Marymount Women's Soccer triumphed in the 4
th game of the season. The first win was played on home turf.
This brings the Saints record to 1-2-1 with no losses conceded at home.
NOTABLE
- Alvarado, Nicole started the game off strong with the first goal of the match. Alvarado took a strong shot from outside of the box in the 22nd minute of the first half that the Mustangs' defense was unable to stop.
- Tonic, Marissa showed up to show out tonight gaining her first goal as a saint in the 58th minute of the game aided by Lanzas, Eliana with the assist. Tonic took her shot from the right side wide and outside of the box, powering it past the opposing keeper.
- Mockenhaupt, Hannah started the game with a save, and Needham, Grace ended the game with another, making the Marymount goalies 2 for 2 for shots on goal and saves for the match.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Saints' defense held strong to start the game, combating the pressure put on by the Mustangs' offense and allowing no goals to be scored against them in the first half.
- The Marymount offense capitalized on the aggression initiated by their defense, channeling it into their offensive strategy to secure the game's first goal and the only goal of the first half.
- The first goal was scored for the Saints outside of the box from a center left position by Alvarado, Nicole to start the beginning of the end for the Mustangs.
- The second half began with the Mustangs evening the score making it 1-1.
- The Saint's immediately retaliated with a second goal, bringing Marymount into the leading position of the game which they held until the time ran out on the Mustangs' chances.
- The game ended with a 1-2 score in favor of the Saints, marking their first win of the season.
UP NEXT
- Marymount will be on the road again on Wednesday, Sept. 11th, to compete against Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pa. with a 7pm start time.
- The Saints will return to Long Bridge Park against Catholic on Monday, Sept. 16 at 7:00 PM for the first round of the Pope's Cup.
