ARLINGTON -- In a defensive battle, Marymount women's soccer fell to Catholic 3-0 on Monday afternoon in the opening Pope's Cup matchup of the 2024-25 year.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Catholic got on the board almost immediately with a tally in the third minute after drawing its first corner kick of the game.
- This allowed the Cardinals, who recorded their third consecutive shutout and fifth of the year, to settle back into their defense and shut down Marymount's offense.
- The score remained 1-0 until CUA added another goal in the 68th minute.
- The Cardinals extended their lead in the 76th minute on another corner kick set piece. All three Catholic goals came off of set pieces.
- Catholic held a 12-3 advantage in shots taken and a 9-4 advantage in corner kicks.
- The loss was Marymount's first home loss of the season.
