Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Starts New Home Streak with Win over Hood

ARLINGTON – Marymount men's soccer executed the game plan and started a new home winning streak after a 4-1 vicgtory over Hood on Wednesday night.

NOTABLE
  • Leonardo Torres recorded a hat trick in the triumph. It's the sixth such performance of his career.
  • No other Saint since 2002 has recorded more than three hat tricks in their career.
  • Alex Rendon Benitez, in his second career start, scored his first career goal after scoring on the rebound from an Erick Shoetter-Rojas free kick.
  • Liam Sloan stopped three shots en route to a victory in goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Torres started the scoring less than two minutes into the match before fans had even settled into their seats. A long ball in from Franklin Cruz-Reyes found a streaking Torres who fired into the net for a 1-0 advantage.
  • Hood got one back in the 20th minute to draw even.
  • Marymount responded 45 seconds later with the tally from Rendon Benitez to go up 2-1.
  • After the half, Torres scored two more times to help the Saints pull away and improve to 3-3 on the season.
  • Marymount outshot Hood by a 20-10 margin.
HEAR FROM COACH KALIN
  • "We did what we needed to do tonight to pick up a solid victory. I think our ball movement for much of the game was very good but at times we lacked quality decisions in the final third. For large parts of the game, we were disciplined and aggressive defensively. It was one bad moment that let Hood back into the game. We must stop doing that or it's going to eventually cost us in a crucial game. Leo was very focused and let the game come to him tonight and that allowed him to be as dangerous as he was."
UP NEXT
  • Marymount will travel to North Carolina Wesleyan on Friday afternoon for a 4 PM start.
  • The Saints will return to Long Bridge Park on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 2:00 PM for Alumni Weekend against Randolph.
