Marymount Falls Short at Shenandoah

Winchester, VA. - Marymount women's soccer competed on the road in the season opener, falling just short against Shenandoah.

The Saints will start the season with a 0-1-0 record. 

NOTABLE
  • Harkins, Breanna seized the first goal of the season for the Saints in the 79th minute during a penalty kick opportunity.
  • Alvarado, Nicole claimed her first goal as a Saint and the second goal of the season during the 88th minute nearing the end of the game.
  • Carrillo-Torres, Daniela had a shot on goal in the 60th minute.
  • Mockenhaupt, Hannah was the starting goalkeeper with 4 saves in the first half.
  • The Saints played an aggressive game with 5 fouls in the first half and 3 in the second half.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Saints came out defensive in the first half with very little action in the offensive box and no goals scored by either team.
  • Shenandoah's offense kept the Saints on their toes with 11 shots in the first half. The Saints defense stood strong and denied all goal attempts in the first 45 minutes.
  • Both teams attempted to switch things up with numerous substitutions throughout the second half.
  • Shenandoah was the first to score in the 53rd minute. Shenandoah made their final two goals of the game in the 60th and 88th minutes of the game.
  • The Saints pushed till the end and were able to avoid the shutout by achieving two goals near the end of the game. The first goal was in the 79th minute and the second goal was in the 88th minute.
  • Even with the last-minute strides taken by the Saints, Shenandoah was able to keep the 3-2 lead to finish the game.
UP NEXT
  • The Saints will play on the road again. This time traveling to Chestertown, Md. to take on Washington College at 12pm on Sunday.
  • Marymount will be back at home next Wednesday, Sept. 4th , ready to take on Goucher College at Long Bridge Park with a 7pm start time.
