TYSONS, Va. - Marymount baseball took the first game of the Atlantic East Conference Tournament on Wednesday over the Griffins of Gwynedd Mercy, 8-5.
With the win, the Saints move into the winners' bracket, shaping up to play the second game of Saturday's slate.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Saints plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a quick lead. Ryan Cuadros scored after doubling earlier in the frame, followed by an RBI single off the bat of Kevin Knoess.
- Bobby Leitzel knocked a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning to keep the momentum in Marymount's dugout.
- Chad Singleton put down a suicide bunt in the bottom of the fifth to score Jonathan McMath to keep the Saints moving, 5-0.
- After Gwynedd Mercy plated two in the top of the seventh, Craig Sodano got those runs back with a pinch-hit two-run bomb in the bottom frame of the inning.
- The Griffins plated three more to get within two in the top of the eighth.
- Knoess knocked another RBI single in the bottom of the eighth to give the Saints some insurance.
- Sean Quinn shut the door in the top of the ninth, striking out one and earning the save to secure the win.
- Ryan Mariani earned his fifth win on the mound, going 6.0 strong with no earned runs and four strikeouts.
- Kyle Lewis had two innings of relief with two strikeouts.
- Quincy Via had two hits out of the leadoff spot for the Saints.
- Jordan Dickson went 2-for-4.

- Marymount will continue their hosting trek on their way to a championship this Friday, with first pitch set up for 12:30 PM.
