ARLINGTON, VA - Marymount softball played Neumann University and Marywood University in the first day of the first round of the AEC championship games. In a quick 5 inning game, the Saints secured the win over the Knights 11-3. Falling short in their game against Marywood University, the Saints lost 3-1. 

GAME ONE

• In the bottom of the first inning, Kaylynn Johnson singled to left field; allowing Jenna Jew to score. 
• In the same inning, Kaylee Atkins hit a sacrifice fly out to left field, bringing Kamryn Brown home.
• In the second inning, Ashleigh Mannion scored on a wild pitch. That same inning, Brown singled to center field and Hailey Leamer scored. 
• The Knights scored three runs in the top of the third, putting the score at 4-3.
• In the bottom of the fourth, the Saints totaled seven runs. A single from Jenna Jew to center field brought Leila Hernandez home. Kaylynn Johnson hit a grand slam and later that inning, Shanyn Burch hit a two-run home run. The Saints secured a strong victory over the Knights with a score of 11-3.
• Shanyn Burch pitched a total of 5.0 innings. She put up one strikeout and three earned runs after facing 22 batters.

GAME TWO

• The Pacers broke a scoreless tie in the top of the third inning with two runs. They acquired another run in the top of the seventh inning, putting the score at 3-0 going into the bottom of the seventh.
• Kaylee Atkins hit a home run with no runners on base. With the Saints at a two point deficit, they were unable to add any more runs ultimately falling short 3-1.
• Shanyn Burch pitched a total of 7.0 innings, she put up two strikeouts and two earned runs after seeing 32 batters.

UP NEXT

• The Saints will play the Pacers again at 12 PM tomorrow at Barcroft Park. If the Saints win that game then they will play a deciding game at 2 PM. 
• If they take the first round over the Pacers, the Saints will advance to the championship games on Friday, May 10 and Saturday, May 11. Time and location TBA.
