TYSONS, Va. - Marymount baseball plated four runs in the bottom of the fourth to overcome the deficit in a battle of nationally-recognized programs on Tuesday evening.
With the win over Shenandoah, the Saints improve to 28-8 on the season ahead of their regular season finale this upcoming weekend.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Saints fell in a 3-0 hole after the first inning and a half of action.
- Jordan Dickson knocked a two-RBI double in the bottom of the second to get the Saints within one.
- Kevin Knoess took advantage of the situation in the bottom of the third and stole home to even up the tally.
- Shenandoah pushed four across in the top of the fifth to take a three-run advantage into the later innings of play.
- The Saints pushed one across in the bottom of the fifth to cut into the lead.
- Quincy Via led off the bottom of the sixth with a single and a quick steal of second. With two away, Jonathan McMath came through with a double to right center, scoring Via and inching the Saints closer.
- After a scoreless seventh, Marymount came through in the bottom of the eighth to take their first lead of the contest. McMath drove another in with a single, scoring Ryan Cuadros who knocked a hit earlier in the frame, followed by a knock off the bat of Kevin Knoess to load the bases. Alec Reilly worked an RBI walk to tie it up, with Daniel Fernandez punching a sacrifice fly to center to take the lead. Jay Beavers put some insurance on the board with an RBI single to round out the scoring and give the Saints a two-run lead heading into the top of the ninth.
- Sean Quinn shut the door, earning his first win of the season the season going 2.0 scoreless innings with four punchouts.
- Owen Mead and Kyle Lewis each had scoreless outings out of the bullpen to keep the Saints close.
- Via, McMath, and Reilly each had a pair of hits in the win.
UP NEXT
- The Saints will kick off their final three-game set of the season this weekend against Marywood.
- Friday's matchup will start at 6 PM after celebrating the All-Decade Team.
- Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 12 PM after celebrating Marymount's seniors.
