Women's Lacrosse Closes Regular Season with Win Over Neumann

ASTON, Pa. - Marymount women's lacrosse finished out the regular season with a decisive win over the Neumann Knights, 22-5.

The Saints complete the season with a 10-6 overall record, 5-1 in AEC play, to secure the #2 spot in the upcoming AEC tournament and a first round bye.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Marymount opened the contest with a five-goal spurt, highlighted by back-to-back unassisted goals out of the stick of Bailey Gehler.
  • After a pair of goals from the Knights, Marymount answered with two more to close out the first quarter, both from Natalia Ortiz.
  • Megan Edens scored twice in a five-goal run to push the score to 12-2 early in the second quarter.
  • After a goal from Neumann, Kaylee Heath and Taylor Chepren each notched unassisted goals to close out the half and keep momentum on Marymount's side.
  • The Saints outscored the Knights 4-2 in the third quarter of play, with two more goals in the mix from Gehler.
  • MU held off the Knights in the final quarter of action, scoring four of their own, to secure the win.
  • Gehler led the scoring with four goals, adding four ground balls, a caused turnover, and four draw controls.
  • Heath and Tess Valentino each put three in the net for the Saints.
  • Riley Love had four points behind a goal and three assists, adding a ground ball.
  • Edens had four points with three goals and an assist with two draw controls.
  • Chepren had three points on two goals and an assist.
  • Abby Dunn led the charge on the defense with five caused turnovers and five ground balls.
  • Ortiz, Brooke Bretney, Lawson Kopfinger, and Jillian Blair each added goals off of the bench.
  • Hannah Smith earned the win in the goal behind three saves and just five goals allowed.

  • The Saints will next be hosting playoff action next Wednesday for the Atlantic East Semifinals.
