ARLINGTON, Va. - Marymount softball split with the Cardinals of Catholic in Wednesday non-conference action.
The Saints record sit 18-18-1 on the season, still 9-3 in conference play.
GAME ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After the Saints allowed a lone run in the first inning, they answered with a big bottom of the fourth to take the lead.
- After a walk from Kaylynn Johnson and a single off the bat of Shanyn Burch, Ashley Mannion reached on an error giving the Saints a bases loaded opportunity with just one out.
- With two away, Leia Hernandez singled to plate the first run of the two-out rally, followed by an RBI single from Jenna Jew. Kamryn Brown forced the envelope and reached via an error, scoring another run to give Marymount a two-run lead.
- Starter S. Burch worked out of a jam in the top of the seventh to secure the win, capped off by a big heads up play from Jew out in center field to take down the runner trying to advance to third to earn the win.
- S. Burch moved to 12-2 on the mound this season, going the distance allowing just two earned runs with three strikeouts.
- Jaclyn Burch, Jew, S. Burch, Mannion, and Hernandez each collected a hit in the win.Â
- Hernandez and Jew each knocked in an RBI.
GAME TWOÂ
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cardinals put up four in the first and two in the second to take a six-run lead.
- Hernandez notched an RBI by getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to cut into the lead.
- Kaylee Atkins knocked a home run in the bottom of the fourth to try to give the Saints some life.
- Catholic ultimately took game two by the game's final tally of 12-2.
