Softball Splits with Mary Washington

ARLINGTON, VA -- Marymount softball played a home doubleheader with the University of Mary Washington this sunny afternoon. The Saints split with the Eagles with a score of 7-6 in the first game and 10-5 in the second game. 

GAME ONE
  • In the first game, Mary Washington started off strong with four runs between the first two innings however, the Saints took the lead in the bottom of the third inning by totaling five runs.
  • In this inning, Jaclyn Burch singled to left field bringing in an RBI and then Kaylynn Johnson hit a strong two run home run to left field.
  • The Eagles gained another run in the top of the fourth putting the score at 5-5. In the bottom of the sixth inning, with bases loaded, Jenna Jew hit a single allowing Hailey Leamer to score. The Eagles claimed the victory in the seventh inning with an addition of two more runs. 
  • Bailey Demusz pitched a total of 6.0 innings putting up three strikeouts and only two earned runs after facing 27 batters.
GAME TWO
  • A more successful night cap as the Saints pulled ahead and claimed the win over the Eagles 10-5.
  • Going into the bottom of the first inning the Eagles are up by three but a single to right center from Kaylee Atkins added two runs.
  • In a high scoring second inning, the Saints totaled six runs. A single to left field from Kammie Brown brought Sam Richtol home. Later in the same inning, Jenna Jew doubled off a bunt, bringing in 2 RBIs for the Saints. Following this, J. Burch singled to center field for 2 RBI. With her second home run of the day, Johnson picked up two more runs. The score sat at 8-4 leaving the second inning. 
  • The remaining two runs came from a single from J. Burch in the third inning and a single from Kaylee Atkins in the sixth inning.
  • Shanyn Burch pitched the entire 7.0 innings. She put up four strikeouts and four earned runs after seeing 31 batters.
UP NEXT
  • The Saints play at home again on Saturday against Centenary University at 1 PM and 3 PM at Barcroft Park. This will also be Senior Day. 
  • On Sunday, the Saints will travel to Gwynedd Mercy Univeristy to resume their game from 04/09 at 1 PM and follow up with a full game starting at 2 PM.
  • They will play their final doubleheader of the regular season on Wednesday against Catholic University at 4 PM and 6 PM.
