FREDERICK, MARYLAND -- Marymount softball hit the road Tuesday afternoon to play in a doubleheader at Hood College. Unable to grab the wins, the Saints suffered two losses from the Blazers, 7-5 and 9-5.

GAME ONE
  • In a high scoring first inning, Shanyn Burch homered to left field, bringing in 3 RBIs. The Blazers then went on to acquire five runs in the bottom of the first.
  • The Blazers added two more runs in the 4th and 5th innings, setting the score at 7-3 going into the top of the sixth inning.
  • In the sixth, Jaclyn Burch singled to center field, allowing Kammie Brown to advance to second and Jenna Jew to score.
  • In the top of the seventh, Ashleigh Mannion flied out to left field in a sacrifice fly bringing S. Burch home. Sadly, it wasn't enough for the Saints as they fell short 7-5.
  • Shanyn Burch pitched a total of 5.0 innings putting up one strikeout and only three earned runs after facing 24 batters.
GAME TWO
  • In the nightcap, the Saints started strong with a score from Kammie Brown off a wild pitch. The Blazers went on to score eight runs over the next three innings, putting the score at 8-1 going into the fifth.
  • In the fifth inning, Mannion doubled, bringing home one run. That same inning, Hailey Greer flied out to second base which allowed Mannion to score an unearned run following an error by second base. Kaylee Atkins then doubled for their fifth and last run of the night. The Blazers earned one more run putting the final score at 9-5.
