Softball Sweeps Marywood

SCRANTON, PA -- Marymount softball faced Marywood University for a doubleheader on this sunny and warm Sunday afternoon. The Saints took both games over the Pacers with scores of 5-3 and 7-6. 

GAME ONE
  • The Saints broke a scoreless tie in the top of the second inning as Kaylee Atkins singled down the left field line, bringing Ashleigh Mannion home.
  • Marymount added four runs in the fourth inning with a double to right center from Kaylynn Johnson bringing in one RBI. Shanyn Burch hit a two run home run and later in that inning, Hailey Leamer singled up the middle allowing Atkins to score.
  • The Pacers picked up one run in the bottom of the fourth and two runs in the bottom of the seventh but it wasn't enough as the Saints stayed on top with five runs.
  • Shanyn Burch (8-2) pitched a total of 7.0 innings, putting up one strikeout and only three earned runs after facing 33 batters.
GAME TWO
  • The first on the scoreboard in their second game, the Saints totaled three runs in the top of the third inning. Leamer grabbed an RBI with a double to left center. Jaclyn Burch doubled down the left field line to bring in two runs for the Saints. 
  • In the sixth inning, Johnson hit a home run with J. Burch on base for two more RBIs.
  • The Pacers snagged three runs in the bottom of the the sixth putting the score at 6-3 going into the seventh.
  • Shanyn Burch's second home run of the day solidified the win for the Saints as the score was brought to seven. 
  • Despite adding three runs in the bottom of the seventh, the Pacers still fell short 7-6. 
  • Bailey Demusz (4-6) pitched a total of 5.1 innings, she put up four strikeouts and only three earned runs after facing 25 batters.
UP NEXT
  • On Tuesday the Saints will travel to Frederick, Maryland to play a doubleheader at Hood College. The games will take place at Hood softball field at 3 PM and 5 PM.
  • On Thursday, they will play University of Mary Washington at home at Barcroft Park at 3 PM and 5 PM.
  • Saturday, the Saints will stay home and see conference action against Centenary University at 12 PM and 2 PM.
