Baseball Wins First Two Over Griffins

TYSONS, Va. - Marymount baseball took the first two games of their three game stint with the Griffins of Gwynedd Mercy, ultimately taking the series ahead of finishing it out tomorrow on the road.

The Saints improve to 23-5 overall on the season, eclipsing the 10-win mark in conference action, sitting at 10-1 thus far.

GAME ONE

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a scoreless first inning, the Saints got on the board in the bottom of the second inning via a sacrifice fly from Chad Singleton, scoring Alec Reilly who doubled to lead off the frame.
  • Marymount tacked on another run in the bottom of the third with an RBI single from Jonathan McMath to score Ryan Cuadros who singled earlier in the inning, giving the Saitns a 2-0 lead.
  • After the Griffins scored a run in the top of the fourth, Marymount answered with a pair in the bottom of the fifth inning. After Bobby Leitzel reached with a bunt single, making his way to third off a throwing error, Cuadros drove him in with a single up the middle. After Cuadros stole second, Kevin Knoess punched a single up the middle to score him.
  • Starter David Muirhead shut down Gwynedd Mercy the rest of the way, going the distance without allowing an earned run with five strikeouts. His record improves to 6-1 on the season.
  • Cuadros led the way for the Saints at the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
  • McMath and Knoess each knocked RBI singles.
  • Reilly had the lone extra base hit for Marymount with his double.
  • Jordan Dickson went 2-2 with a pair of singles and a walk.
GAME TWO

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Saints got on the board quickly in game two, with McMath shooting an RBI single to push Cuadros across the plate.
  • The Griffins took the lead after plating a pair in the top of the fourth.
  • Reilly answered with a two-run home run deep into left to retake the lead, 3-2.
  • The Saints put up another run in the bottom of the sixth to push the score to 4-2.
  • Cuadros drove in another run in the bottom of the seventh, followed by an RBI single from McMath to give Marymount a 6-2 cushion.
  • Dickson knocked an RBI double in the eighth to give the Saints their final run of the day.
  • Kyle Lewis earned his fifth save of the season on the mound, going 3.2 shutout innings allowing just one hit and striking out four.
  • Braeden Lencz (5-0) earned the win on the mound, going 5.1 innings with six strikeouts.
  • Quincy Via went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
  • Reilly had two RBI in the win with his blast.
  • Dickson notched an RBI, going 2-for-4 at the plate with a double.
  • Knoess went 2-4 at the plate with a double and two runs scored.
  • Singleton punched a single.
  • McMath went 2-4 with two RBI.
UP NEXT
  • The Saints will look to finish out the sweep tomorrow on the road, taking on the Griffins at their place at 2 PM.
