Women's Lacrosse Overpowers Griffins

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. - Marymount women's lacrosse powered past the Griffins of Gwynedd Mercy handily on Wednesday evening, 24-5.

With the win, the Saints improve to 7-6 overall on the season, 2-1 in AEC action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first quarter was all Marymount, as the Saints put eight unanswered goals into the net to take a commanding lead.
  • Riley Love found Kaylee Heath for back-to-back goals to open up the game.
  • Love found Jillian Blair at the 7:03 mark of the first quarter to put the Saints up 3-0 and garner momentum.
  • Tess Valentino and Bailey Gehler each scored a pair through the remainder of the first quarter.
  • Taylor Chepren dished a pass to Natalia Ortiz to open the second quarter and push the Saints' lead to nine.
  • After a goal from the Griffins, the Saints went on to five unanswered to close out the half, putting the score at 14-1.
  • Gehler and Love traded spots in their scoring efforts to kick off the second half of play, each notching a goal and an assist apiece.
  • Lawson Kopfinger got on the board, followed by back-to-back goals from Ortiz to finish off the third.
  • The teams knotted up at four goals a pop to finish out the fourth quarter and give the Saints the win.
  • Gehler led the way in the contest with nine points on five goals and four assists. She added three ground balls, two caused turnovers, and eight draw controls.
  • Love put up another solid performance, notching eight points on two goals and six assists. 
  • Ortiz notched five goals on the evening with a ground ball and two draws.
  • Chepren put up five points on her five assists.
  • Abby Dunn had seven draws, four ground balls, and three caused turnovers.
  • Valentino put four in the net for the Saints.
  • Heath added her four goals.
  • Jillian Blair had two goals and two assists for four points.
  • Anna Geiger and Kopfinger each added a goal in the decisive win.
  • Megan Edens had four draws, two ground balls, and a caused turnover.
  • Brooke Bretney notched two assists, a ground ball, and a caused turnover.
  • Riglee Flohr notched an assist.
