ARLINGTON -- Marymount men's lacrosse led for most of the first half on Wednesday evening before Gwynedd Mercy put together a 12-3 run to close out the game and finish with a 17-9 victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After an early goal from Gwynedd, the Saints scored the next two, including Alex Tran's first career goal to jump ahead 2-1 with 7:31 left in the first quarter.
- Bryan Maguire (3G) closed out the first quarter scoring with a tally from Ciaran Connolly to head into the second quarter with a 4-2 lead.
- After Jack Williams (1G, 1A) put Marymount on top 6-4 with 7:05 remaining in the second quarter, Gwynedd finished the frame with five unanswered goals to hold a 9-6 lead at the break.
- Gwynedd opened the third quarter with another goal but Marymount responded with two in a row to cut the deficit to 10-8.
- Marymount seemed poised to cut the deficit once again but Gwynedd's defense held strong and the Griffins scored seven of the game's final eight goals to win by a 17-9 final score.
- Offensively, Marymount placed 35 of its 50 shots on target but the Gwynedd goalkeeper finished the day with 26 saves.
- Cam Glass finished the day 19-of-22 in the face-off spot.
- Gavin Taylorson finished the day with two goals and three assists.
- Williams, Jack Mattimore, and Kevin Gorham each caused two turnovers on the defensive end.
