FREDERICK, Md. - Marymount women's lacrosse used a balanced effort to take down the Blazers of Hood College on their home turf Saturday afternoon by a final score of 11-6.
The win pushes the Saints to 2-1 in the early going of the season before coming back to Long Bridge Park.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Arayla Garcia opened the scoring for contest, sinking an unassisted goal just past a minuted played to put the Saints in the driver's seat.
- After a Hood goal of their own to even up the tally, Marymount answered with another goal from Garcia from the free position.
- Garcia scored yet again with under four minutes left in the first quarter to give the Saints a 3-to-1 lead.
- Back-and-forth goals from the two teams, with Kaylee Heath notching her first one of the day from the free position, ended the quarter with the Saints keeping the edge at 4-2.
- Megan Edens opened the second quarter of play with a goal to push the Saints' momentum.Â
- Taylor Chepren found Bailey Gehler with an open look, who capitalized the opportunity to push the score to 6-2, with Gehler following that up with an assist to Heath to give MU a sizable 7-2 lead.
- The two squads traded shots again to finish out the half, giving Marymount an 8-to-3 lead heading into halftime.Â
- Hood opened the second half with a goal to cut into the MU lead, but Ella Baker then found Chepren with an open opportunity to get the lead back to five. Baker followed the play with an unassisted goal to push that lead to six.
- Garcia scored her fourth and final goal of the contest in the fourth quarter, with the Saints holding onto their lead to the final whistle.
- Garcia led the way for the Saints with her four goals, adding eight total draw controls, while going a perfect 2-2 from the free position.
- Gehler put up a strong, balanced day, scoring a goal and dishing an assist, while picking up four ground balls and causing two turnovers.
- Edens notched her two goals, while also grabbing five draw controls and a ground ball.
- Heath picked up her two goals off of the bench.
- Baker and Chepren each put up a goal for the Saints, with Chepren also adding an assist.
- Abby Dunn had four ground balls.
- Hannah Smith earned the win in the goal for the Saints, notching a career-high 15 saves, a ground ball, and a caused turnover.Â
UP NEXT
- Marymount will turnaround quickly, coming back to Long Bridge Park for a contest on Monday at 4 PM against Western Connecticut State.
- They will follow that up with two more home games next week.
- Wednesday, they will play Susquehanna at 4 PM.
- Saturday, they will play Bridgewater at 3 PM for their Wheeler's Warriors game.
