ARLINGTON, Va. - Marymount women's lacrosse hosted Western Connecticut State Monday afternoon in non-conference action at Long Bridge Park.
A tight back-and-forth contest, going down to the wire, the Saints came up on the short end by a final tally of 13-to-11 to fall to 2-2 on the season.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Western Connecticut put the first two in the net to start out the matchup, putting MU in a quick hole.Â
- The Saints answered with an unassisted goal from Ella Baker at the 12:28 mark of the first quarter.Â
- After another Wolves goal, the Saints battled back with back-to-back goals, coming from Riley Love and Tess Valentino, with Valentino's out of the free position, both within the seven minute mark.
- The two teams traded goals to finish out the first quarter, with Baker notching her second of the day out of the free position with two minutes left in the first quarter. The score was knotted up at four.
- The second quarter was a defensive display, with both teams working to break through. Western Connecticut ended up posting a pair to take a 6-4 lead into the half.
- With the Wolves opening up the second half sinking a goal, the Saints looked to bounce back. Valentino found Arayla Garcia with an open look, sinking the goal to cut into the lead. Baker sank her third goal of the game shortly thereafter to put the score at 7-6 in favor of the Wolves.
- Down 10-6, Love chipped into the lead with her second goal, this one out of the free position, of the contest at the 2:53 mark in the third.Â
- The Saints outscored the Wolves 4-1 in the fourth quarter of play, with Jillian Blair posting two, Bailey Gehler with one, and Garcia with her second of the day to work to mount the comeback.
- Coming up just short, the final whistle blew with the Saints on the short end, 13-11.
- Alongside her hat trick in the scoring column, Baker added two ground balls and a caused turnover.
- Garcia led the way in the draws, notching four on the day with her pair of goals.
- Abby Dunn posted three draw controls and a ground ball.
- Taylor Chepren and Peyton Samson each caused a turnover.Â
- Hannah Smith had 12 saves in the affair.

- The Saints will be back at home this Wednesday, taking on Susquehanna at 4 PM.
- They will play this weekend at Long Bridge Park, taking on Bridgewater on Saturday at 3 PM.
