Men's Volleyball Takes Down Rivier in California

THOUSAND OAKS, CALIFORNIA -- In a tough battle against Rivier University, Marymount men's volleyball claimed the win 3-1 at their first day of the Cal-Lu-Fornia Invitational.

NOTABLE
  • Esteban Jauregui put up 13 strong kills as well as 4 blocks and 3 digs.
  • Luke Pogue had the highest hitting percentage for the Saints with .643 and 10 total kills. 
  • Diego Pena had 29 total assists and Joe Crowder was close behind with 24.
  • Mason Moore and Pogue each had 5 blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Saints swept the first set 25-16 with notable kills from Pogue and a contribution of service aces from Wright and Pena to keep them ahead of the Raiders.
  • Also claiming the second frame 25-23, the Saints went into the third frame with a 2-0 lead. With a tie at 21-21 late in the third set, the Raiders claimed the frame with a strong kill, testing our defense.
  • The match was pushed into a fourth set in which the score went point-for-point with notable kills from Pickering and Moore and assists from Crowder. The Saints were able to secure their first victory of the weekend 27-25 with a kill from Wright and an error by Rivier.
UP NEXT
  • Tomorrow, the Saints will face Wentworth Institute of Technology at 6 PM ET.
  • They will finish out the Cal-Lu-Fornia invitational on Saturday as they play University of California, Santa Cruz at 6 PM ET and California Lutheran University at 9 PM ET.
  • The Saints will travel to Ashland on Wednesday for their next conference match against Randolph-Macon College at 6 PM.
